Every pond owner wants striking , big, colourful, pretty, easy to keep fish, and most will eventually opt or end up with goldfish and comets, after they have bought a few Koi and they died.
Koi carp are beautiful,. especially when they are big and colorful, but they are notoriously expensive, expensive to buy, especially if they are over 3 inches long, and expensive to keep.
They can be hard to keep, and to keep alive. The nature of their breeding and inbreeding has made a beautiful looking but 'delicate' pond fish that now requires super filtration to make the water fit for their basic living standards, not to mention the many treatments for every kind of parasite, fungus and bacteria that seems intent on destroying them. I know, I have Koi.
There is a new kid in town, Koi No Yohei have apparently bred back to"white magoi", apparently breaking the mould of hundreds of years of line breeding and inbreeding, they are now producing beautiful colourful koi that are big and hardy, just what you need for your pond, big beautiful Japansese Koi - and still reasonably priced.
